Woodkids Forest School
Description
Woodkids Forest School offers outdoor playgroups, camps and nature activities for children in Kilkenny. We foster children’s wellbeing and love of nature through games, crafts, free play and storytelling in the forest. The Forest school ethos is learner-centred, builds confidence, encourages to care for the environment and promotes the holistic development of all participants.
Activities include nature observation, messy play, games, crafts with natural materials, den building, storytelling and songs. Each season is different according to what is happening in nature at that time and what the children are interested in.
Sessions are facilitated by a qualified and experienced Forest School Leader. Woodkids Forest School is a member of the Irish Forest School Association.
What to expect
Sessions begin with a circle time and song followed by activities such as nature observation, sensory/messy play, crafts with natural materials, games. The site is equipped with hammocks, ropes, mud kitchen, tarps and picnic blankets to relax on.
We finish with a cup of foraged tea and storytime. Forest school is child-led : participants can get involved at their own pace, be creative and take their own initiatives.
Who is it for
Children aged 18 months to 5 years old and their parent. Younger siblings can accompany for free. We believe every child deserves nature. Children with additional needs are welcome, please get in touch to discuss if the class is suitable and how best to support them.
