Banna Beach

Description

Banna Beach is located circa 12km North of Tralee with miles of sandy beach.

Swim, build sandcastles, surf or go for a walk on the beautiful Banna Strand. I’ve never brought the buggy but have seen others do it.

Carpark & toilet facilities available. There’s often a coffee truck serving fab coffee and treats in the main car park. And surf lessons are also on offer (seasonal & weather permitting).

Theres also a caravan park and bar/restaurant, pool and playground just over the road in Banna Resort.

It’s also worth reading up on the history of Banna Strand and the infamous landing of Roger Casement here from a German U Boat on Good Friday 1916. He would later be executed for High Treason. Locals were brought to court to testify at his trial in London which played a part in him being found guilty – and created significant tension in the local community. A good read on it here

Poul Gorm is also an option. It’s behind Banna where little (and big) pools of water form when the tide goes out. But it can be dangerous. The tide comes in fast – be warned! Wouldn’t recommend going there if you are not familiar with the area. (I’ve never gone without my husband)
